More slot machines available at U.P. casino | IXGAMES

Customers at the Island Resort Casino now have access to a larger gambling area with more slot machines and a new gambling pit. The renovations are part of a $43 million expansion that also includes construction of a 211-room hotel tower, 1,300-seat showroom, restaurant and bar, lounge and 18-hole golf course. “The projects been going very well. Everything’s on schedule,” said casino spokesman Dave Feathers. “We expect it to be completed in April.” Officials announced the expansion plans in February 2005, and construction began that fall. The project is related to a $7 million wastewater treatment plant built for the Hannahville Indian Community, made up of the Potawatomi Tribe, owners of the casino. Eventually, 450 slot machines will be added to the gambling area that used to have 950 slots. The new showroom seats 1,300, compared with the original 788-seat showroom.
