Ben Roethlisberger Likely to Play Next Week against the Ravens | IXGAMES

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback suffered a concussion last Sunday when they played against the Kansas City Chiefs. Ben Roethlisberger had 398 yards thrown and three touchdowns before he was hit by linebacker Derrick Johnson on the helmet with a knee that rung his bells and looked like that he was out from the sidelines. The defending Super Bowl champion lost to Kansas 27-24 in overtime and Roethlisberger never got back into the game. This is also the Chiefs’ first home win this year over an opponent with a winning record. Roethlisberger was then replaced by backup Charlie Batch who threw two passes and handed the ball off twice in the overtime loss. Coach Mike Tomlin is still unsure of the severity of the injury but will monitor Roethlisberger’s progress and hopefully the recovery will be smooth. Roethlisberger: hard to take down League sources tell that the quarterback is recovering fast. He was even allowed to fly home with his team and there were no signs of memory loss or nausea. These early signs are encouraging for the team since they need him against the Baltimore Ravens this coming weekend. He also took the shower with his team after the game, which is a positive sign for the Steelers. The 27-year old said he was okay after the game and was not sure whether he suffered a concussion or not. He will be evaluated to know for sure if he is really fit to play for the next game. He will need to pass a routine of tests before the Steelers can get him back. A knee to the head will not be enough to stop Roethlisberger from playing this weekend. Injury plagued Steelers looking for a quarterback. With Ben Roethlisberger’s status still cloudy, the Pittsburgh Steelers are now looking to increase the quarterback depth. This is because backup Charlie Batch, who replaced Roethlisberger in last Sunday’s overtime lost to the Chiefs, will be requiring wrist surgery and will be out for the next six weeks. The Chiefs also played without receiver Dwayne Bowe who is out due to a suspension for four games for violating the league’s performance enhancing drugs policy. The Steelers next quarterback in line is Dennis Dixon who has thrown only one career pass. If they put Batch on injured reserve, they can sign a young free agent to their roster. The Steelers are already on the move and made the necessary calls. They made one to Cleo Lemon and Jeff Garcia. There will be a tryout to be conducted. It was the Steelers second loss in a row, after they lost to division rival Cincinnati twice while playing without Pro Bowl safety Troy Polamalu and guard Chris Kemoeatu, also out with a knee injury. The Pittsburgh Steelers are now 6-4 in the season with a two-streak loss.
