The defending Super Bowl champion lost to Kansas 27-24 in overtime and Roethlisberger never got back into the game. This is also the Chiefs’ first home win this year over an opponent with a winning record. Roethlisberger was then replaced by backup Charlie Batch who threw two passes and handed the ball off twice in the overtime loss. Coach Mike Tomlin is still unsure of the severity of the injury but will monitor Roethlisberger’s progress and hopefully the recovery will be smooth. This is because backup Charlie Batch, who replaced Roethlisberger in last Sunday’s overtime lost to the Chiefs, will be requiring wrist surgery and will be out for the next six weeks. The Chiefs also played without receiver Dwayne Bowe who is out due to a suspension for four games for violating the league’s performance enhancing drugs policy.
