European Countries Regulate Gambling the US Prohibits It | IXGAMES

Spain has just announced plans to regulate Internet gambling. Italy has already begun to regulate Internet gambling. The UK’s new laws to regulate Internet gambling will be implemented in 2007. The EU is putting strict guidelines on European nations to protect against protectionism. And the Bush led United States is sticking by its prohibitionist terms. The consequences of the United States not getting into this market while the market is hot might be detrimental to the future success of Internet gambling in the US once the country ultimately reverses the UIGEA. Party Poker, Ladbrokes, and many other major online casino, poker rooms, sportsbook and gambling companies are scrambling to Italy, Spain, and the Uk. They are all searching for the place that offers them the most lucrative terms and standards for operation. According to an analyst from Shaw and Rays, an Internet gambling specialist firm based out of Canada, “the more competition between European countries, the better the circumstances will be for the Internet gambling companies.” John LeQuire, the analyst from S&R, explained that if the US doesn’t regulate soon the market may be too saturated once they do decide to regulate. As for the Las Vegas companies who wish to get in the casino game when America regulates, their success will depend on how long after the rest of the world has been in business. “If the world gets used to the brand names of the online companies based out of the EU,” LeQuire said, “the brand names of Vegas companies that are very valuable right now, may no longer matter to regular players.
