A’s Face Wild Card Test in Form of First-Place Rangers | IXGAMES
It’s no surprise that the Oakland Athletics are contenders to win one of the final American League wild card berths. This Monday, however, they’ll get a chance to defend that opportunity and fortify their MLB odds with a strong showing against the league-leading Texas Rangers. Nobody said it would be easy. It may have took them awhile, but the fact that Oakland did eventually manage to establish themselves in the way that they did in the second half of this season is commendable in its own right. With 16/1 odds of winning the World Series this late in the season, it’s safe to consider the campaign an at least modest success. Not content with simple mediocrity, however, the A’s will look to take one step closer to locking down a spot in the 2012 playoff field. If that means hanging tough throughout a four-game set against the AL West-leading Rangers, then so be it. Sitting at 9/2 on the MLB odds, the Rangers are the team to beat in baseball. The sheer depth of their lineup is enough to strike fear in any opponent any time, let alone one who has as much riding on the series as Oakland has on this one.
