Chief Exec of Nets Enjoys Brown Bag Lunch with a Fan | IXGAMES
Brett Yormark, the New Jersey Nets’ chief exec, had a brown bag lunch with a fan for about 30 minutes. Yormark’s lunchmate was a fan who covered his head with a brown paper bag during a recent game to protest the Nets’ dismal season in the NBA. The lunch comprised of brown bags containing fries, hamburgers, and salads, which were complements of McDonald’s. Aside from Brett Yormark, other people included in the brown bag lunch summit were brothers Rob and Chris Lisi (the guy who wore the brown bag) of Middletown and the radio broadcasting team of the Nets. The reason behind the brown bag summit In a recent game, Brett Yormark blamed Chris Lisi for New Jersey Nets’ loss against Miami Heat and exchanged heated words with the brown-bagging fan. The following day, Yormark defended his outburst, stating that he was standing up for an NBA team that was, at that time, facing the risk of getting the NBA record of having the fewest wins within a season (9-73). However, since the said incident, the New Jersey Nets has achieved victory for 3 out of 4 games. This means the team won’t be getting the record of having the fewest wins. This notorious record still belongs to Philadelphia 76ers (1972-73). Due to this incident, a disappointed fan by the name of Chris Lisi covered his head with a brown paper bag on a recent game. What happened during the lunch meeting The brown bag summit was held at the team’s headquarters located in East Rutherford. The actual lunch meeting was captured in video and was broadcast over the New Jersey Nets’ website. However, the video stream had to be cut off because too many people were logging into the team’s official website. Broadcasters Tim Capstraw and Chris Carrino, and Brett Yormark did most of the talk. Some of the things they shared with the brown bag fans was that how the New Jersey Nets was in a good position to achieve more in the future, and that they have Brook Lopez as center and Devin Harris as point guard. It was also discussed during the lunch meeting that they have one top draft pick. This means they have enough salary cap to offer around $23 million on a free agent, which might include Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. After the lunch summit Yormark had a few more words with Rob and Chris Lisi after the lunch meeting, while also inviting them to another game. According to Yormark, this brown bag lunch meeting led to something positive. The team was able to reinforce among fans their message about the team’s plan to improve their play. This brown bag lunch meeting with disappointed fans wasn’t the only marketing tactic employed by Brett Yormark. Two days after this lunch meeting, the New Jersey Nets made an offer: any fan who wears a brown bag during a game will receive a loot bag — a nylon bag containing a pack of trading cards, a poster, and a note from Yormark. The note from Yorkmark will include this message: “Thanks for letting us see your face. We hope to see it more often at Nets’ games.”
