Gambling is illegal unless the government is making money on it
I would like to point out an error in what Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Capt. Chris Dahlke said in the March 17 Star. In reference to the IMPD stepping up attacks on gambling, he said, “Gambling is illegal.” That is incorrect. What he could have said correctly is, “Gambling is illegal unless the government is making money on it.” Apparently, fun is only good if you are paying the government for it; otherwise, fun is a crime. Dahlke says, “Many people want to call it harmless, but it does negatively impact the community.“ How does playing cards for money negatively impact the community but playing slot machines does not?
Government has no problem with gambling; it just doesn’t like competition. Government officials need to learn that, by having a double standard and by prosecuting victimless crimes, they undermine the respect law-abiding citizens have for law enforcement.
