Back to the Galaxy for Everton Loan Landon Donovan
Even with the requests made by Everton to LA Galaxy to allow Landon Donovan to stay for an extra month, it appears that his loan will end as scheduled this weekend. Both Donovan and Everton officials have raised the subject with LA Galaxy before the match last Sunday to Hull City. However, Galaxy has chosen to stick to the loan deal’s March 15 deadline, despite the fact that an ongoing labor dispute has delayed the Major League Soccer season. Hoping to continue Everton career With an impressive 10-week spell at Goodison Park, Donovan had previously said that he might stay in the Premier League after the match at Birmingham City this Saturday. Even so, fans have accepted that Donovan will be returning to the US after this game. Everton is keen to maintain its cordial relationship with LA Galaxy. There have been some indications that it will attempt to sign Donovan in the summer but another loan deal next season is more realistically to happen. Donovan has signed a four-year extension in December with the LA Galaxy. With that said, Donovan still has hopes that his Everton career will continue, with a game-by-game option as the more feasible route. In an interview, the Most Valuable Player of the MLS for the past two seasons said that he had already broached the issue with LA Galaxy and his manager, Bruce Arena, and that at this point, it is already up to the two teams’ management to decide. He hopes that things will work out, but if not, he accepts that his team is the LA Galaxy and expresses gratitude for the chance to play for Everton. Lessons from Everton Donovan said his experience with Everton and Davido Moyes will be valuable when he faces England in the World Cup in Rustenburg on June 12. This world cup is USA’s first. The forward admits that his current success in the Premier League is a direct contrast to his two previous experiences of playing in Europe. He says that his confidence has improved during his stay on Merseyside compared with his previous stints at Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich. Donovan points out that he has learned from the professional demands of playing every day in spite of the mental and emotional demands. “I have a lot of respect for the Lampards and Gerrards, who do it day in day out, who just keep going, even Bainesy (Leighton Baines) here, who plays every week,” he further adds. He cites that the improvements in the technical, tactical, and motivational aspects are making him better prepared for the World Cup. He refers to getting the chance to play against and beat Chelsea and Manchester United in the same week as the highlights that raised his confidence as a player.
