Blazers Guard Roy Out through All-Star Break | IXGAMES

The future is unknown for the Portland Trail Blazers as guard Brandon Roy is expected to miss at least two of Portland’s next games. He will also neither be playing nor participating in the NBA All-Star game, scheduled on February 14, 2010 at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Roy’s stats Roy has already missed twelve of the team’s last thirteen games, and ten consecutive contests, due to an injury to his right hamstring. The injury occurred during the game against Milwaukee in a recent face-off. It was further aggravated a week after in Philadelphia. The Blazers guard is already in his fourth season with the team. He currently leads the team in terms of average points (23.1 points per game) and minutes (38.3). He also ranks second on assists (5.0) and steals (1.0). He also has made the All-Star team as a reserve for the third consecutive season. The decision was announced Saturday afternoon after more than three weeks of vague statements as to when Roy would return to the lineup. While he is expected to be down until at least the Feb 16 2010 game against the Los Angeles Clippers, there is no official timetable as to when he will be on active duty. At a press conference at the Rose Garden before Portland’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, Roy revealed how tough it was not to see action for a long time. Treatment options He reportedly underwent a platelet-rich plasma infusion on Jan 22 in an attempt to quicken healing and shorten rehabilitation time on his injured hamstring. This state-of-the-art procedure involves directly injecting blood into the injured hamstring. Despite the treatment, progress has been slow. In fact, Roy says he felt his hamstring tighten up again during their Friday practice. He denies however a recent announcement by the team that he will go through another platelet infusion treatment. He reveals that his battle plan will just be doing as little as possible, relying on ice and rest to heal the injury during his downtime. Blazers General Manager Kevin Pritchard reveals that the Roy and the team did not want this decision but had to do it as it was the best course to take for Roy. This was indeed a tough decision as Roy being in the sidelines just added to the setbacks the Blazers had to go through this season. The beleaguered team had to deal with a series of key injuries happening one after another this season. Despite these difficulties, Portland is still a contender in the Western Conference playoffs. Coach Nate McMillan remains positive that the team can carry on even during Roy’s absence. The coach further hopes that his player will be completely healed during his rest and that he will still have an All-Star player during the second half of the season.
