Early Boxing Betting Is as Hot as It Can Be | IXGAMES

With matches just finished this year and fights next year slated to be grander and more memorable than ever, betting in highly anticipated matches has began.  Some matches have the odds slightly favoring old time favorites, while some have die-hard fans wondering if they should bet on the other team just to earn some profits. Who’s next for Amir? Odds makers have favored Juan Urango of Colombia to be the next opponent for Great Britain’s Amir Khan.  This match, if it will happen, will be the British sensation’s first defense of his new title in the light welterweight category.  He got this title from the World Boxing Association after a quick and thorough demolition of Dmitriy Salita in Newcastle.  The match was finished in the first round, just after 76 seconds. The current International Boxing Federation champion, Juan Urango, is touted to be the best fighter to battle Khan, although he has fallen to a Brit as well in the past.  In 2007, Ricky Hatton won over their watch on points.  However, an all-Brit boxing match between Khan and Hatton is not really considered warmly by enthusiasts.  Even Frank Warren, Khan’s promoter, was quoted as saying that Hatton won’t be much of a challenge to Khan as he has suffered a lot of losses, including a second round demolition by Manny Pacquiao. So, what’s in store for Hatton? Ricky Hatton’s return would be via a fight with Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez.  In all betting arenas, Hatton has been placed as the underdog.  The match is set to happen in Hatton’s city, Manchester, in 2010.  Betters put the Mexican’s odds at 8/11, while Hatton is pegged at 11/10. If previous matches with the current pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao were to be the basis of comparison, Marquez is also better off.  He came out with a split decision loss, while Hatton was down on the floor on the second round of his bout with Pac Man.  Many doubt the condition of Hatton in this return, as most have expressed that he is out of condition. Is Manny invincible? With the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Puerto Rican slugger Miguel Cotto ending in a referee-stopped match, people there and then were chanting “Mayweather!” referring to their preference of letting the Filipino fighter battle the undefeated American Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Despite the impressive wins of Pacquiao in his most recent bouts against Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and now, Miguel Cotto, he is still slightly on the disadvantage, at least according to betting sites, against Mayweather.  Betting sites have placed an 8/13 odds for Mayweather to triumph over Pacquiao, while a Pacquiao victory is pegged at 6/5.  This does not mean, of course, that Money Mayweather should rest on his laurels, as the Filipino fighter has just surprised all his foes one by one with impressive victories.
