Granato to Be Inducted in Hockey Hall of Fame | IXGAMES
Cammi Granato was part of the US Women’s National Hockey team and is now a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. She is one of the two female members of the Hockey Hall of Fame in a span of 65 years. She will be inducted in early November together with other veteran Hockey players. Granato is only one of nine Americans who made it in the Hockey Hall of Fame and also the first US-born hockey player from Illinois that made it in the list. She went to the Olympics to represent the country twice. Setting a great record in women’s hockey Granato began her hockey career early on. At a time when women’s hockey was not recognized, Granato played organized hockey in kindergarten. She had played with boys until she reached high school. Her experience honed her to be one of the best hockey players in history. She earned a scholarship at Providence College. Throughout her four-year stay, she performed excellently at the sport and completed a legendary college hockey career. She also received several awards for her skill during her college hockey stint and led her team to various championships. Her talents brought her fame and success, which she used to revolutionize the sport. Due to her persistence in promoting women’s hockey as a sport, its growth and popularity grew not only within the country but all over the globe as well. Her contributions to the expansion and development of women’s hockey are highly significant, making her truly deserving of such a prestigious commendation. Granato retired in 2005 after a 15-year career in hockey as part of US Women’s National Team. She was the point leader in games, garnering 343 points in 205 games. As one of the team’s first ever members, she was made team captain and has led the team through several local and international games. By the time she retired in 2005, she held the international record for most points in a game. She earned 96 points in a span of 54 games. Currently, the record for the most goals in an international game with 54 goals belongs to her. On media fame and winning Olympic medals The first Olympics with the US women’s hockey team as participants launched a frenzy in the hockey world. Granato was catapulted into media fame, prompting her to get endorsements as well as broadcasting stints. She also established the annual Cammi Granato Gold Medal Hockey Clinic for Girls. Nearing her retirement, Granato still joined the 2002 Olympic games where she was able to capture her second Olympic medal. She brought home a silver. In her last professional game back in 2005, she was able to lead the US women’s team into the championship. This was her ninth World Championship and the US’ first in the IIHF World Women’s Championship. Cammi Granato currently lives with her husband and kids in Vancouver. She co-founded BelaHockey, which focuses on creating hockey gear for girls, and now works with news stations in broadcasting blow by blow accounts of hockey games.
