Haynesworth Still Not Fit Enough for NFL Practice | IXGAMES
Albert Haynesworth, a two-time all-pro defensive tackle from the Washington Redskins, is still not fit enough to join the practice sessions. Just recently, Haynesworth has failed the conditioning test yet again. After completing 3 sprints (back and forth), he stopped because he felt a bit of irritation or soreness on his left knee. According to Washington Redskins’ Coach Mike Shanahan, it’s very important for Haynesworth to pass the conditioning test before he can join the rest of his teammates during the practice sessions. Haynesworth has to be in top condition before he can expose himself to the rigors of NFL training and practice. The third time’s not the charm for Haynesworth During the first day of training camp, Haynesworth failed the conditioning test for the first time. In the middle of the conditioning exam, Haynesworth took an extended bathroom break. On the next conditioning test, Haynesworth failed again because he wasn’t able to post enough time for the sprint test. During the weekend that followed, Haynesworth didn’t try his luck because his knee was very sore. Just recently and for the third time, Haynesworth still didn’t pass the test as he stopped after doing only 3 sprints. At his recent attempt to pass the conditioning test, Haynesworth seemed like your average-injured-NFL-player spending time at the training camp. While wearing his jersey (no. 92), he walked towards the field with no pads at all and stayed there for the entire training session. As he held a play sheet, he watched the drill sessions while also wearing his baseball cap. After the training sessions, Haynesworth spends time with the coaches for a one-on-one walk through the plays. Because Haynesworth has declined to join the conditioning program during offseason, he is the only player required to pass the conditioning test. According to Coach Mike Shanahan, Haynesworth’s persisting knee problem vindicates his decision to not allow Haynesworth to join the rest of the Washington Redskins during training sessions. He added that in order for a player to fully maximize a training session, he has to be in top football shape. Coach Mike Shanahan stated that “It’s like someone sprained an ankle. If you sprain an ankle, you can’t run. If you can’t run, you can’t practice. He’s got to get in football shape.” What to expect from Haynesworth’s attempts to pass the test Shanahan expects that with treatment and enough preparation, Haynesworth will be ready to join the practice sessions and prep up for the upcoming NFL games. The coach is also confident that Haynesworth will soon pass the test. If asked whether or not there will come a time that he might make Haynesworth join practice sessions without having to pass the test, the coach stated that it is possible, although fans and spectators will have to stick and around and see what will happen next.
