Ireland Gaming Opportunity | IXGAMES
While certain sectors of the U.S. continue to fight fiercely against regulation of online gambling, Ireland is looking to use Internet casino regulation as a means to provide jobs and spur the economy. The Gaming and Leisure Association of Ireland has petitioned the government to make public and regulate casinos in the country – and to legislate moves designed to draw online gambling operators to Ireland as a base. The association estimates as many as 10,000 jobs could be created by legislating favorable conditions for online casinos to operate from Ireland. It also asserted that another 3000 jobs would come from regulation of land casinos, which presently run as private clubs. Revenue from the regulation of the casinos was estimated as potentially as high as $68 million annually. Such benefits would be a hundred fold greater in the U.S., if regulation were passed. But outdated and misinformed thinking about gambling and the casino industry have left pockets of resistance to the change, and these groups throw up every stumbling block they can summon. So, even as looming recession threatens the country’s revenues and unemployment figures rise ominously, some politicians block a strong source of revenue and work on misguided *moral* grounds. They find it more ethical to deprive citizens of choice than to allow themselves to admit online gambling is here, regardless of their attempts otherwise. By: www.onlinecasinoadvisory.com
