The Golden State Warriors suspend Stephen Jackson for two games after the bout with the Lakers. According to them, the suspension was for the unaaceptable conduct he displayed. In less than ten minutes of play against the Lakers, Jackson already got a technical and five fouls. The 11-year NBA veteran was obviously upset on the bench, entered the locker room and hasn’t appeared since. Whether Jackson went to the locker room by himself or was ordered to was not evident. However, prior to that, a somewhat heated talk between Jackson and Coach Don Nelson ensued. Jackson’s sanctions Jackson will not play against Phoenix in Indian Wells on Saturday night as well as the Clippers on Monday at the Staples Center. He has already been fined by the NBA last month for $25,000 after going public about wanting a trade. Jackson has been discontent with the Warriors ever since the 2007 playoff, and the years have only made him more insistent and vocal about his intentions. During 2003, Jackson won a championship with the San Antonio Spurs. Coach Don Nelson claims that he has never suspended anyone during his stint as a coach, when he was questioned about Jackson’s suspension. He refused to go through the specifics of the decision. Both general manager Larry Riley and Coach Don Nelson have been criticized for their handling of the club. Aside from Riley and Nelson, the team’s former top exec Chris Mullin also received criticism, and was released earlier from the team by Robert Rowell, the Warriors’ president. Jackson’s reason for his discontent with the team Prior to his requests for a trade, Jackson has agreed to a three-year contract amounting to $28 million last November. Currently, Jackson is very fond of voicing his wish to leave the team. It seems that the major cause for his discontent with the team springs from Warriors’ decline since the 2007 playoff in which the team was able to reach the second round. The lineup responsible for that consists of Al Harrington, Baron Davis, and Jackson himself. Now, the Golden State roster is void of both Davis and Harrington, replaced by a much younger crowd. The Warriors have had a winning season during 2007 to 2008. However, there seems to be little chance that the team will be participating in any future playoffs soon. If the team do decide to trade Stephen Jackson, the Warriors may face difficulties in shipping Jackson to another team because of his 3-year contract. History shows that although Nelson has never suspended a player before, the Warriors have already banned Latrell Sprewell for one game in 1995. This happened during Nelson’s first shift with the Warriors. This was done due to Sprewell’s skipping of practice for at least the second time during the season and costing him around $10,000 in salary.
