Kings Rookie Sued for Wrongful Death | IXGAMES

Tyreke Evans, a Sacramento King point guard rookie is being sued for a fatal shooting incident that occurred in 2007 in Philadelphia, which involved his vehicle. The shooting occurred near Evans’ home and resulted in the death of 19-year old Marcus Reason.  Evans’ cousin, Jamar Evans, who was 16 at the time of the shooting, is now serving a  prison term that could last from 9 to 20 years for killing Reason. He pleaded guilty for third degree murder and weapons charges. He is also facing 8 years of probation. He reportedly fired the fatal shots from the passenger side of the car that Tyreke Evans was driving. However, Evans was not charged in the incident and fully cooperated with the police. According to the testimony of Evans, his cousin Jamar and two other men, Rasheen Blackwell and Dwayne Davis, were watching a football game at an aunt’s house in Rainer Road in Chester before they got into a Ford SUV with Tyreke on the driver’s seat to head to his house, where the four planned to eat.  Shots rang out before the four reached their destination. Jamar Evans believed that Reason was about to fire at their vehicle, which was why he fired his gun from the passenger’s side. However, investigation revealed no gun on Reason’s possession at the time of the shooting. Tyreke was a high school basketball player at the time of the shooting. The lawsuit was filed by Reason’s parents who are seeking more than $50,000 in a wrongful death suit that was filed in Delaware. The suit also charges the two other men aside from Tyreke Evans and his cousin. According to Reason’s family, he was working two jobs—one as a cook and the other for a limo company–and was planning on going back to school. Tyreke Evans and his NBA career Tyreke Evans was a highly recruited high school player at American Christian in Brookhaven before playing for the University of Memphis and finally landing on the NBA. The 20-year old was the fourth overall pick  during the NBA June drafts and is the Kings’ second-leading scorer with a scoring average of 20.1 ppg. He was drafted by the Kings straight out of the University of Memphis. He has also created quite a record as a rookie and is known as one of the most talented rookies on the team. He was named the NBA’s Western Conference Rookie of the Month in December 2009 for the second straight month. He also displayed a superb performance in the Kings’ matches against Chicago Bulls in December, leading the  team’s comeback against the Bulls that resulted in a 102-98 victory. He has also been noticeably being relied on by Kings’  Coach Paul Westphal to throw out the winning shots, something that has some fans edgy in their seats. However, chances that he’ll be throwing winning three pointers anytime soon are getting slimmer for this rookie.
