Mets Try to Hold Off Nationals in Washington | IXGAMES

Washington’s struggles have been well-documented, but they’re still on the hunt for the wild card. In the National League East, they’re trying to track down the New York Mets, who are trying to track down their first division title since 2006. The Mets will send Jacob deGrom to the mound (4-1 in his last 10 starts), but he has struggled with the Nationals this season. This year, he’s 1-2 in four starts with a 3.47 ERA against them. The 27-year-old sophomore is fourth in the National League in ERA, but those numbers climb on the road (3.25 road vs 1.57 home). The Nationals will counter with Stephen Strasburg, who last pitched on August 30 against Miami and then was skipped in the rotation. Washington is being careful with the 2014 strikeout leader because he has battled injuries this season and is dealing with a bad back right now. Strasburg has settled down after the All-Star break where he is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in five starts. In 13 starts before the break, Strasburg was 5-5 with a 3.16 ERA.
