New Jersey Devils Win 4th Straight

The New Jersey Devils are now enjoying their 4th straight win over the Carolina Hurricanes, beating them 4-2. The first goal was scored by Patrik Elias, making a record of 299 goals in his career. The game was definitely sealed when an empty-netter was made by Rob Niedermayer with 5 seconds left on the clock. This win by the Devils also ended the 2-game winning streak of the Hurricanes. The first goal by Patrik Elias was actually a fluke goal. It all started when Elias took a pass from Niclas Bernfors and moved to the right side of the net. Elias attempted to return the puck to Bernfors through a backhand pass but it was intercepted by the Hurricanes’ defenseman Aaron Ward.  Unfortunately, it made the puck bounce right off  Ward’s skate and straight into the net, turning it into a goal for the Devils. This goal by Elias came in at 11:11, making it his 4th goal of the season. Andy Greene makes two straight goals This game would have been a close one without the two straight goals made by Devils’ defenseman Andy Greene. Greene had consecutive goals for New Jersey where they beat the Hurricanes 4-2 . The goals made by Greene were the second and third goals of the game. This gave the New Jersey Devils a 3-0 lead until the Hurricanes went back to play and scored twice in a very short span of 1 minute and 58 seconds. These consecutive goals by the Hurricanes cut the lead down to 3-2 toward  the end of the second period. The game was back to a close fight when the two goals were made by Carolina. One of the goals was made by the son of former Devils’ coach and current Calgary Flames coach Brent Sutter, Brandon Sutter, who made the first goal. Another player scored a few moments later.  Tuomo Ruutu did a power-play goal for the Hurricanes. Greene made the first goal by skating into the Carolina side.  From the blue line, he made a rocket slap shot. His second goal was a bit more impressive than his first as Ray Whitney was off for high-sticking, turning this into a power play for Andy Greene. He skated to the Hurricanes’ turf.  Although he got knocked down on the play, he was still able “to knock in a rebound off Zach Parise’s shot,” making this goal his 5th of the season. Cam Ward, the Hurricanes’ goaltender, missed Greene’s shot. He also missed the previous 13 games of the season after suffering from a cut on his upper leg.  The skate of Columbus’ Rick Nash is where he got his cut from. Rob Niedermayer also scored one for the Devils, who have won 7 of their last 8 games. Although Martin Brodeur made a total 21 saves in the game, he’s still in a tie with Terry Sawchuk at 103 for “the most shutouts in NHL history.”
