NJ Nets Gets New Coach | IXGAMES

After 17 straight losses, the NBA team New Jersey Nets fired coach Lawrence Frank and would try a new one.  The new coach is Kiki Vandeweghe, who happens to be the current general manager of the team.  Vandeweghe will be spared of initial humiliation, with Tom Barrise still coaching the team until the game against Dallas in home-ground New Jersey.  It will be the team’s 18 straight losing streak, which is devastating, in case the Nets will lose again against the Dallas Mavericks, which happens to be one of the leading teams in the Southwest Division and has so far dropped only a few of their matches. Vandeweghe as the new coach Team insiders have said that Vandeweghe is set to take care of coach duties when they play against the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday, the 4th.  The plans pertaining to the coaching staff change should be unveiled any time this week.  As for the game on Wednesday, Tom Barrise will still be on the helm, but if sources are right, this will be Barisse’s only second and last game as the Nets’ coach. His first game was a loss to the current league champion LA Lakers at Staples Center. The Net’s coaching job was handled by Lawrence Frank who, for 6 seasons, spent a decade with the Nets and has a record of 225 wins with the team.  He was the Eastern Conference’s coach with the longest tenure.  Frank was fired after the New Jersey Nets absorbed its 16th loss. As clearly seen, even with Barisse taking the leadership role, the team still lost, exposing the Nets’ other problems like sidelined players due to injury.  For two weeks, the team’s injury list worsened, with only eight available players during Frank’s last games. With the loss to the Lakers, the current standing of the Nets is at 0.-17.  This placed them in a triple tie with the 1988-89 Miami Heat and 1999 Los Angeles Clippers teams for having the worst record in season openings.  Prior to being general manager, Vandeweghe has also served as the team’s assistant coach.  He has mentioned bringing in Del Harris as his assistant. Harris has had experience working with some of the current players in the Nets roster such as Devin Harris, Eduardo Najera and Trenton Hassell with their former team, Dallas.  Harris’ last job was an assistant for the Chicago Bulls. Prokhorov to take over Even the team’s state is in transition as well, with Mikhail Prokhorov, a Russian billionaire set to buying 80% of the team by the end of the year. This might give Prokhorov a carte blanche to bring in his own staff, jeopardizing Vandeweghe’s position no matter how good (or bad) he will perform on the succeeding games.
