A good movie about cards and casino hasn’t been around for a while, but the most recent release, “Shark Out of Water” is one that has a more accurate portrayal of what it’s like to be a professional card player than other movies like 21 which focus on always overcoming the odds and going home the winner. “Shark Out of Water” portrays the ups and downs of the life of a professional Poker player, it even features some big names in Poker! It’s a short movie which has been featured at various film festivals including the Miami Short Film Festival, the Edmonton International Film Festival, the Tacoma Film Festival, the Mississauga Independent Film Festival, and the Nevada City Film Festival. Shark Out of Water” is a short film that only runs about 18 minutes long (plus tons of bonus footage), but in that short running time a few big names in Poker manage to make an appearance, including Matty Finochio, Artine Brown, Brad Booth and Phil Hellmuth. The point of “Shark Out of Water” is not to make the world of professional Poker seem glamorous, because at times it can be anything but. They’re trying to portray a realistic perspective of the world of Poker, including the good, the bad and the ugly. For some, playing Poker as an amateur or professional can prove to be a huge mistake once they find themselves drawn in so deeply they just can’t get out; but for others (the stuff you usually see on TV and in movies) there is an element of fame and The short movie has been nominated for a Leo Award in a couple of categories, and is now for sale on DVD.
