Redd Out for the Season with a Knee Injury | IXGAMES
Another injury on the same knee and the same ligament has put Michael Redd out for the season again. The shooting guard for the Milwaukee Bucks tore his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and medial collateral ligament (MCL). This is the same injury that he suffered from in the past season, something that has got some fans scratching their heads. Some are speculating that this could be the death blow to his career as a high-end NBA player, but Redd is optimistic, claiming that he is willing to put up with the surgery and rehabilitation needed to get back in the game. According to the Bucks shooting guard, he can’t exactly put a word on what he’s feeling right now, since it might take a lot to be back in the playing field to help his team win. But Redd puts his faith in God. The previous injury Redd experienced the exact same injury a year ago on January 24 at the Bradley Center. The most recent injury occurred on January 10 this year, when he planted his feet as he was making a move on the lane during the game where the Bucks lost to the Los Angeles Lakers with a score of 95-77. He was immediately helped out of the court and later underwent a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam in Phoenix, where ligament tears were again found. The 30-year old Bucks shooting guard has missed a number of games in the past season due to injuries. He missed a total of 35 games in that season and 16 games for this season due to his injuries, one of which is a tendon strain on the left patella. Redd was on his tenth year on the NBA prior to his most recent injury. He has played in 18 games in the season and started 12. In the 2008-2009 season, he was able to play in a total of 33 games. He is expected to make $17 million this season. He is also expected to hold a player option for more than $18 million for the next season. Most fans are understandably worried about how this could affect team performance. Redd in his heyday was a stone cold shooter and was capable of making contested jumpers from anywhere on the floor. He is also known as an all-around good guy. Redd is a professing Christian, and one of the first moves that he did after getting his first contract was buy a church building for his father’s ministry in Columbus. He was part of the All-NBA Third Team in 2004 and NBA All-Star in the same year. He was also one of the USA Olympic Basketball Team. He was part of the team that won gold in both the 2007 FIBA Americas Championship and in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games. With his contract in place, the Bucks have no other option but ride this one out until 2011. The Bucks are better off if Redd decides to opt out, but this has a very little chance of happening.
