Roethlisberger Not to Appeal Suspension | IXGAMES
Surrendering to disciplining measures, Ben Roethlisberger, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, has acquiesced to his six-game suspension. Violation of personal conduct policy The 6-game suspension came on the heels of a controversy, which involved Roethlisberger, violating the personal conduct policy of the NFL. Roethlisberger has sworn to fulfill what has been required of him by the organization. The NFL has delivered the penalty the previous week. However, it was only recently that Roethlisberger made his very first comments regarding the matter. He expressed his apologies to his fans as well as his teammates, for having behaved less favorably in a bar in Georgia the previous month. A 20-year old college student claims that Roethlisberger had assaulted her sexually. Roethlisberger finds himself accountable for all his actions, especially after the commissioner has decided to suspend him. It was only after the suspension was delivered that he understood how much is actually expected from athletes like him. He insists that he has not committed any crime, but maintains that he had jeopardized some of the most important values he has learned through his family. Charges cleared The charges filed against Roethlisberger had been settled. However, Commissioner Roger Goodell still had something to say to one of his most popular stars. Goodell reiterates how NFL players are almost always associated with high standards, and with the way Roethlisberger had acted in Milledgeville, Georgia, there was nothing admirable or responsible reflected in his actions. Devastating suspension Roethlisberger has been a Super Bowl winner twice. He admits feeling devastated by the suspension and not being able to participate in games for a while. However, he has decided not to appeal the suspension anymore. He has decided to comply with everything that is required of him. He is also apologetic about having disappointed his teammates as well as the fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He is sorry for having reached so low and has made the vow never to meet the same situation ever again. Recognizing the opportunities that he has had, he has decided to make the needed improvements on his personal life and career. First player up for suspension Among all the players of the NFL, Roethlisberger is the first among those not arrested or filed with crime charges to be suspended by Goodell. Due to the league’s conduct policy, Goodell was permitted to discipline his players, whether Roethlisberger actually committed an infraction or not. In a statement written to Roethlisberger, Goodell has stated the following: “During your entire six years in the NFL, you have pleased many people but now it is clear that you have also disappointed them.” Goodell added that hopefully, through suspension, Roethlisberger will be able to make some serious considerations about his personal life and career as an NFL player. From six games, the suspension can be cut down to only four games, should Roethlisberger complete an evaluation required by the league, as the actions mandated by the league require that he stay out of trouble. While he is allowed to practice in a training camp and participate in pre-season games, he cannot fully participate in actual games until the 17th of October.
