Gambling revenues at US commercial casino’s rose nearly seven percent to a record 32-point-four billion dollars in 2006. That’s according to a survey released by the American Gaming Association – the industry’s major trade association. The survey assembled data about 460 commercial casinos in eleven states from those states’ regulatory agencies. It found those casinos employed 366-thousand people and contributed five-point-two billion dollars in gambling taxes to state and local governments. That’s up more than five percent from a year earlier. The survey did not include the gambling revenues from American Indian casino, cardrooms or video lottery terminal locations. The survey found strong growth in the 36 racetrack casinos found in eleven states. The casino’s took in 16 percent more in gambling revenue than the previous year. Employment in the properties rose by 30 percent.
