Washington State will no longer prosecute online poker players

Online gambling enthusiasts and online poker players residing in Washington State will no longer incur the risk of being prosecuted for their hobby thanks to the approval of SB 1243 on April 17 2007. Washington State legislators passed Bill 1243 to correct excessive felony charges for online poker or online gambling when done in the privacy of a primary residence for recreation and not for organized profit. Individuals residing in the State of Washington are therefore allowed to play poker online or place wagers at online betting sites without having to fear prosecution. These moves highlight the fragility of the UIGEA and its chances of being executed. These legislations would in fact dump the burden of detecting which online gambling financial transactions are legal and which are illegal on the banking system. The ABA sought exclusion of ACH and paper checks transactions from the UIGEA immediately after its approval by the U.S. Congress.
