Governor supports gambling expansion

Governor Blagojevich says he’s ready to accept more gambling in Illinois, if it means healthcare for everyone. A proposal to add four casinos passed a Senate committee yesterday. Senate President Emil Jones said some taxing issues are part of the idea, specifically corporate taxes and closing loopholes. Governor Blagojevich says he also likes House speaker Michael Madigan’s suggestion of a tax on power generators, which he says is not that far off from his proposed gross receipts tax. Blagojevich says he hopes Democrats can act in good faith to get the budget done before May 31st, after which Republicans would be needed to make a supermajority in the House.
