Sports Betting in Delaware

According to the News Journal in Delaware, Vincent Lofink who is the Delaware State Representative plans to introduce a bill that would allow sports betting through a sports books ran through the state. The bill will be introduced along with a study showing that it could bring in over $70 million dollars to the state of Delaware. Delaware had a state ran sports lottery program that was stopped before the end of the 1976 NFL season. Because of the lottery Delaware is not included in the 1992 federal banning of sports betting and could introduce legal sports betting if approved. The big professional sports leagues such as the NFL, NBA, MLB and NHL all have said they will fight it if it moved forward. Delaware has been discussing and debating such action for about the last five years but it has never picked up momentum like it appearently has at this time.
