Horse racing may legalise in China
China may legalise gambling on horse races for the first time since the Communist Party took power in 1949 -Â the official Xinhua news agency said. The proposal for betting on horse racing is being reviewed and discussed. Horse racing reappeared in the early 1990s as jockey clubs were set up but gambling remains illegal -Â except for state lotteries. The business could create three million jobs a year in China, yielding 40 billion yuan ($A6.24 billion) of tax revenues. + Offering a legal venue to bet on horse races could drive out illegal online gambling. To show how much the world is actually changing -Â you need not look further than in China. The country is contemplating allowing gambling on horse racing for the first time in almost fifty years.
