Sharks Gain 8th Straight Victory

NHL’s leading western conference team San Jose Sharks had a fairly easy game against the worst team in the same conference with a 4-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. The San Jose Sharks are tied with the Chicago Blackhawks with the best record in the western conference,  with a record of 42-61, while the Edmonton Oilers are last with a record of 42-36. Sharks just breezing through Oilers The first period said it all for the San Jose Sharks when Jamie McGinn and Douglas Murray made goals. From there on, the game was set. These first two goals by the team “came on shots from the point.” McGinn tipped in Kent Huskins’ shot to put the Sharks on the board, making his seventh goal. Another goal came from Murray when he beat Jeff Deslauriers, putting the Sharks up by 2-0. In the second period, the Sharks’ Dany Heatley scored in the first few minutes of the period to push the lead to 3-0. Robert Nilsson was the only one who scored for the Edmonton Oilers. It was actually not his own goal as he was credited for the goal when Evgeni Nabokov of the San Jose Sharks tried to clear a rebound when the puck accidentally got deflected off teammate Joe Pavelski. It went past Nabokov for a goal crediting Nilsson. This one mistake was made up with the way the Sharks scored on the other end. Oilers getting worse The Edmonton Oilers are really having a tough season with their current record. The Carolina Hurricanes hold the worst record in the league this season, but the Oilers are not playing any hockey at all. They’re struggling to win and even struggling to score. Days ago, Pat Quinn, the Oilers’ coach, called his team dumb after they lost to Calgary Flames. The Oilers have now lost nine of their ten games struggling the whole season. Sharks trying to win in playoffs For the past two and a half weeks, the San Jose Sharks have won all their eight games. The winning streak right now is the longest since last season when they won 9 games early on. It was a disappointing season back then because they lost in the opening round of the playoffs. With the way they are playing, the Sharks are still trying to keep their game better through the playoffs to win the coveted President’s Trophy. The goaltenders were in action in this game, but the Sharks’ was not really tested. The Oilers’ goaltender Jeff Deslauriers made 23 out 27 saves, while Sharks’ goaltender Evgeni Nabokov made 22 out of 23 saves. The Sharks are off to extend their winning streak against their division rival Los Angeles.
