Pacquiao-Clottey Fight Odds Even More Lopsided
The Pacquiao-Clottey fight is only one short month away and the odds keep on piling in favor of Pacquiao. Based on the latest monitoring from Gambling911.com, the odds are hovering around -500 for Manny Pacquiao versus +350 for Joshua Clottey. The Filipino boxer is very heavily favored to win that as demonstrated by odds at Bookmaker.com, where one would have to wager $880 on him just to win $200. The details The snowstorm in New York where Clottey is currently based has made the odds very lopsided. New York is currently in deep snow, forcing Clottey indoors and unable to do roadwork. In addition to him not being able to fully use up his training regimen, his woes are compounded by the fact that his trainer Godwin Dzainie Kotey was still not granted an American visa. Oddsmakers are expecting more movement and steeper wagers if more snow hits New York and Clottey’s trainer cannot join him. Issues encountered by Pacquiao’s camp While Pacquiao’s camp seem to be running smoothly training-wise, his trainer Freddie Roach took the time to counter statements made by Paulie Malignaggi. The “Magic Man” has recently accused the Filipino boxer of allegedly using performance enhancing drugs, echoing Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s similar allegations. Pacquiao was supposed to defend his World Boxing Organization welterweight title against Mayweather Jr., but talks between the two camps collapsed when a compromise was not reached on how the random blood testing will be conducted. The Mayweather camp wanted Olympic-style drug testing but Pacquiao refused to have any blood testing done within thirty days before the fight as he thinks it would weaken him. Pacquiao offered to have blood taken before the thirty-day window and immediately after the fight but this was not acceptable to the Mayweather camp, leading to Pacquiao’s promoter Bob Arum declaring that the $50 million fight was officially off. Malignaggi stated his allegations in an interview with Ricardo Lois and John Chavez. He cited that Pacquiao is too small to crush world-class killers and how he seemed to be unaffected despite getting a broken eardrum from the fight with Miguel Cotto. Roach responded in an interview with FightFan.com that their camp decided to take on challenger Joshua Clottey of Ghana after the fight with Mayweather collapsed. “We have to fight challengers out there… and we couldn’t pick Paulie Malignaggi… you know he’s a little stiff,” the American trainer said. He adds the Malignaggi was never considered a quality opponent, just one of “those little guys with big mouths but can’t fight.” Malignaggi has lost two of his last four matches, while Pacquiao easily defeated his last four opponents. What bettors are expecting However, online bookmakers are still hoping on a Mayweather-Pacquiao showdown before the year is over. Odds on that dream fight are still being offered with Mayweather as the favorite. It is stipulated though that the fight must be within the year, otherwise funds are returned.
