Titans Take Over Babin after Eagles Refused to Offer More

As the Philadelphia Eagles refused to equal the offer sheet presented by the Titans and Babin, the Tennessee Titans were able to get defensive end Jason Babin. All this took place last Wednesday. The defensive end Titans general manager Mike Reinfeldt is pleased about the deal with defensive end Jason Babin. Among the positive qualities of Babin as a player include having intense energy and being an excellent pass rushr. Also, he is a good fit with what the rest of the team is already doing. All through the offseason, Babin is expected to join the team and to work along with Coach Jim Washburn. It is expected that Babin will complete the lineup as the defensive end. Babin was considered to be an unrestricted free agent.  However, his past agreement with the Eagles allowed them the right-of-first-refusal, enabling the Eagles to have a week in order to match the offer of another team and to secure his rights. The Eagles later notified the NFL of their conclusion, and this led to a deal between the Titans and Babin. As a result too, the Eagles cannot demand any compensation whatsoever from the Titans. Babin confessed that he was not expecting that anything would come out of the deal.  He was in the dark as to what the Eagles might do at that point. Now, that he is part of the Titans, Babin is excited to play for his new team and to get into action. He wants to work alongside the team and to work during the offseason with Coach Washburn, including the other coaches and the players in the team. Also, Babin recognizes how his abilities match those of the defensive line, especially where the style of defense is concerned. Seeing how the rest of the team come off the ball, make excellent pass rushes, and are highly aggressive, Babin sees himself as an effortless fit for the team. Indispensable role The role of Babin in the defensive line rotation will be an indispensable one, according to the head coach of the Titans, Jeff Fisher. Fisher notes how Babin has the unusual ability of finding himself in the quarterback and playing a lot of snaps for the team. By working intently with Coach Washburn and a good offseason period, Babin is expected to “get to the quarterback,” which is very much essential for the team. During the course of the seven NFL seasons that Babin has played, he has compiled a total of 197 tackles, 17.5 sacks, and 66 career games. In the previous season at Philadelphia, he participated in 12 contests and reached 20 tackles along with 2.5 sacks. He was also a MAC Defensive Player of the Year twice at Western Michigan. Babin, now 29, had been drafted by Houston originally during the first round of the NFL Draft 2004. He was able to spend three seasons with the Texans and then spent all the period of 2007 playing for the Seattle Seahawks. During the 2008 campaign, he was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs. It was in 2009 that he became part of the Eagles during training camp.
