With the 2014 Masters Tournament upon us, reigning champion Adam Scott has the opportunity to defend his title and bump himself into the No. 1 spot in the world golf rankings. With 10/1 PGA odds of coming up big at Augusta, oddsmakers seem to think that it’s a distinct possibility.
While Scott technically shares the top spot in the sportsbook with young Rory McIlroy, his pursuit of a back-to-back Masters run gives him the slight advantage in the court of popular opinion.
Other notables who will also have the chance to sneak into that No. 1 spot while Tiger Woods sits this one out are Henrik Stenson and Jason Day. Stenson’s 25/1 Masters odds are intriguing throughout golf betting circles, but his performance of late has been shaky at best. Day trails Scott, McIlroy and Phil Mickelson (12/1) with 14/1 odds of his own
The Major championship won’t be the same without Tiger in the mix, but Woods, let’s not forget, hadn’t actually won at that level since 2008.
Will there be a new leader atop the rankings list come Monday? It won’t be long before we find out.
