The Big East Conference has been through some drastic changes the last few years. But one thing that hasn’t changed is the excellence of the Villanova Wildcats program. Not only do the No. 6-ranked Wildcats lead the Big East
with a 24-2 record SU, they’re also the most profitable of the major conference teams at 18-7 ATS.
On the other side of the coin, you have Villanova’s opponents this Saturday (2:30 PM ET, FOX), the Marquette Golden Eagles. They’re near the bottom of the Big East standings at 11-14 SU (13-12 ATS), and the Eagles are in freefall right now at 1-6 SU and ATS in their last seven games. The Wildcats are a perfect 7-0 SU and ATS during the same span.
Savvy college hoops bettors figured Villanova would excel this year, especially after guard Darrun Hilliard (22.8 PER) enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2013-2014. It helps that Villanova is keeping a quiet profile in the shadow of the undefeated Kentucky Wildcats. As for Marquette, this is Year One under rookie head coach and former Mike Krzyzewski disciple Steve Wojciechowski, so some growing pains should be expected with the program starting from scratch. Fade while the fading is good.
